We want your wedding to
be a most special day and so, even if you do not choose "Silver King
Music" for your reception, you still have our permission to use this
material.
FIRST: Most
brides choose Saturday or Saturday evening for
their weddings
SECOND: Most brides
choose J une
as the month for their weddings.
So, if you are planning a
Saturday event.... or a June event.... It stands to reason then that
you need to get everything booked as quickly as possible.... because
all the other brides could be calling the same vendors for their
locations, the same photographers, the same musicians or DJs, the
same florists, etc.
"HOT TIP" - First select your wedding date and give
yourself two choices of dates...
HERE'S WHY.... Decide where you want to hold
your reception.... it's best on everyone if it can be
held INSIDE for a number of reasons.... Call the Venue and see
if those two dates are available.... Ask them to pencil in both
dates for about 48 - 72 hours....
THEN - Decide on having a DJ or live music....
A DJ will almost always be less than a live band and may be more
versatile as the DJ will have immediate access to many thousands of
songs - (Silver King Music also offers
KARAOKE in addition to all the regular music)....
LOCATE THE DJ OF
YOUR CHOICE.... Call ASAP to see if they are
available on the dates you are looking
at.....
HERE ARE SOME
FACTS TO REMEMBER..... The Wedding
Reception Venue and the DJ can only service one Reception at a
time....
The Caterers.... The Florists... The Ceremony
Official, The Photographer can and most often do service more than
one wedding in a single day...
Your DJ will only do ONE service per day... If
they are already booked on one of the days, maybe they will have the
2nd choice available. (many brides are
booking as far as one year in advance and getting their website set
up right away)
If you are planning for an OUTDOOR
wedding, several things must be taken into
consideration....
If the wedding is to be in JUNE, JULY,
AUGUST for example, and you live in an area where it
is extremely hot, please remember.... if everyone is wearing formal
attire... everyone will be burning up! If the area typically
has afternoon rain showers, you will need an emergency back-up
plan where everything can be moved inside in a hurry! We did one
wedding where everything was to be held outside and we
experienced one of the most extreme storms imaginable! Don't let
that happen to YOUR big day!
Receptions should typically be held INSIDE
where everyone can sit down in comfort for the
reception meal.... and be able to dance without fear of heatstroke.
ANOTHER REASON FOR HAVING YOUR RECEPTION
INDOORS especially in the Springtime.... remember
the POLLEN COUNTS are exceptionally high in our
area and sometimes to the point of being dangerous. Hold your
wedding outdoors if you have your heart set on it, but please don't
subject your party guests to the pollen or the heat. Either one
could produce disastrous effects for your party.
Cake frostings and some
other items do not fare well in the heat where they have to endure
temperatures of 90 to 100 degrees! Your guests may fall
into that same catagory... they may not hold up well either and you
don't want everyone leaving early.
________________________________________________________________
When you choose a DJ,
you should lock things down immediately for the date you are
planning for and get an initial payment to the DJ to secure
your date. Once a payment (typically 50%) is made, then you can
count on the DJ to lock your date in.
This should be done as early on as
possible as the DJ you have chosen will have other
brides calling for his/her services and a payment is necessary to
keep another bride from tying the DJ up on the date you
wanted!
Highly Recommended.... Ask the DJ for a
face-to-face consultation before you sign a contract or pay any
money. You don't want to leave anything to chance
with the DJ. Compatibility between you is of utmost importance. You
want someone who is going to; be courteous to your
guests, handle your music in a competent and professional
manner, get your guests up and dancing so that they have fun...
and above all....make YOUR day as special as
possible!
This meeting
should be done as soon as possible as the DJ cannot lock in your
date without a contract.
Another Recommendation: Have
the DJ meet with BOTH the Bride and Groom to discuss exactly what
the DJ will be doing for you. An experienced DJ will have the
ability to help line up your Wedding Party Introductions and do a
great job of handling the announcements as your party arrives in to
the reception. The
Bride may want to also ask her Mother and/or Father to
join the meeting with the DJ.
Talk to your DJ about the
dress attire that you want them to wear. At a wedding, the DJ should
wear a Business Suit or Tuxedo as you wish. At the same time, you
will not want the DJs to be overdressed above the members of your
wedding party.
Discuss whether or not you want to do traditional
"DOLLAR DANCE".... This is a dance
done after the "First Dance", the "Father/Daughter Dance",
"Mother/Son", "Garter Toss", Etc. and is where the Bride
& Groom begin to dance to songs like "Money, Money, Money"... or
"I need Money", Etc. (up tempo type songs for the fun) and guests
pay a dollar or more or write down something they will do for the
new couple, in order to have a short dance with either the Bride or
Groom... The Bridesmaid and Best Man could be designated as the
official "Money-Holders"...
The "DOLLAR
DANCE" is an excellent way to get people up and on the dance
floor...
After that, some "Group"
type dancing should be played to keep everyone up and going... we
recommend the Electric Slide, the Cha-Cha Slide, the Macarana, YMCA,
Texas type line dancing, etc.
